  ComboBox

Satellite and GSM Combined

The ComboBox is a combined satellite and cellular communications product, whereby the driver can stay in contact, either via GSM or satellite phone, depending on which one is available.

The Inteletrack ComboBox unit is the ideal communication solution where one communication medium does not cover the whole desired area. The ComboBox uses multiple communication mediums to increase coverage, and if satellite is used, near global communication is possible. The ComboBox is able to establish communication by identifying the available mediums, and selecting the preferred medium to make a call. This product is designed for Africa and makes voice and data communication possible inside the cab unit.  Systems that may use the data capability is typically the “Africa Track Warrant" (ATW) or the “Track Warrant Display” (TWD).

  • Choose between any 2 voice communication mediums (Trunk Radio; GSM; Satellite)
  • Rugged design (Fits into the standard train radio case)
  • Signal strength indication
  • Loud audio output
  • Report position function
  • Speed-dial (Pre-programmed numbers only)
  • Used for data-communication (ATW or TWD)
  • 6 comports     - 2x Communication control
                       - 1x   End-of-train device

                                   - 1x  Train control/Telemetry System

                                   - 1x  GPS / Digital communication to ATW

                                   - 1x  Alternative / Programming

The ComboBox unit is equipped with a GPS. The GPS information is used to display the time and speed to the driver. Position and speed can be logged against time for investigational purposes. The GPS information is also available for use by other equipment on the train.

The unit converts the standard locomotive power supply (75V dc) to 13.8V, and is suitable to supply power to other equipment, like the ATW.

The ComboBox can be upgraded to a Track Warrant Display (TWD) unit. Track warrant information can be downloaded to this unit to assist the driver by providing relevant track and warrant information. The TWD unit acts as a digital GPS overlay to a voice warrant, and will report any unauthorized activities to the control center.

The system is designed in such a way that the driver can contact the dispatcher by the push of a single button.  The number to be dialed is pre-programmed into the unit, and when the driver push the dial button, it will first try and dial via the GSM network.  Should GSM reception not be available, it will revert to satellite communication.  The basic system is designed for communication, but it can be expanded to the TWA (track warrant assistant).
